SUMMARY:Confident Christianity Evenings – St Peter’s Free Church - Dundee
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays 4th & 11th March | 7:30–9:15pm \n\n\n\nDo you find the thought of talking about Jesus with friends\, neighbours\, family members\, or colleagues a bit daunting? \n\n\n\nDo you ever worry about saying the wrong thing — or what might happen if someone raises a difficult question about suffering\, truth\, or the state of the world? \n\n\n\nIf so\, you’re not alone. \n\n\n\nIn today’s fast-paced\, sceptical\, and often anxious culture\, many Christians feel unsure about how to speak naturally and confidently about their faith. That’s why St Peter’s Free Church is partnering with Solas to host two Confident Christianity Evenings with speaker Steve Osmond. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese evenings are designed to help ordinary Christians: \n\n\n\n\nTalk about Jesus more naturally and thoughtfully\n\n\n\nEngage well with big questions and objections\n\n\n\nFeel more confident representing the Christian faith in everyday conversations\n\n\n\n\nEach evening will include two short talks\, and a time for Q&A\, giving you the opportunity to ask honest questions in a relaxed setting. \n\n\n\nEvent Schedule\n\n\n\nWednesday 4th March – Hope and Everyday Gospel Conversations\n\n\n\n7:30pm–9:15pm \n\n\n\nConversations That CountFor many Christians\, the thought of evangelism is something that fills them with anxiety and fear. What if there are questions that I can’t answer? What if they disagree with me? What if I just look like an idiot? Rather than trying to have all the answers\, this talk will help prepare you to become better in having good conversations that will lead you to sharing your faith in Jesus more naturally and confidently. \n\n\n\nIs There Any Hope?Given all the chaos in the world – poverty\, climate crisis\, cost of living increases\, disease – it seems like hope is in short supply. Can we really rely on our human ingenuity to solve the issues of the world? Is hope just wishful thinking? This talk will explore what Christianity has to offer in comparison to some of the other major worldviews. \n\n\n\nQ&A \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesday 11th March – Answering Hard Questions on Truth and Suffering \n\n\n\n7:30pm–9:15pm \n\n\n\n“True for You\, But Not for Me!” – The Truth About TruthTrue for you but not for me. All truth is relative. That’s just your truth. We can’t know what is true. We live in a post truth culture where disagreeing with someone is seen as an all-out assault on their personhood. Bigotry! It is said that all truths are subjective\, self-defined and relative. Really? Is that true? Jesus said “I am the way\, the truth\, and the life. Nobody comes to the Father but through me”. This talk will unpack the self-defeating nature of relativism\, equip you with tools of how to spot these inconsistencies\, and show how belief in God actually makes far more sense of reality and especially our moral intuitions. \n\n\n\nIf God\, Why Evil? The Bible teaches us that God is all-powerful\, all-knowing. and all-good. If Christianity is true\, then why is there so much evil and suffering in the world. This is both a common objection from sceptics as well as a question that just about every Christian will wrestle with at some point. This talk is an introduction to the problem of evil and suffering that will focus on helping people think through God being both loving and powerful\, but also allowing evil and suffering. Christianity not only stands up to the questions posed by sceptics but has something unique to offer the world when faced with pain\, grief\, evil\, and suffering. \n\n\n\nQ&A \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese evenings are ideal whether you: \n\n\n\n\nFeel nervous about evangelism\n\n\n\nWant help answering difficult questions\n\n\n\nCare deeply about friends and family who don’t yet know Jesus\n\n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome and the event is Free. \n\n\n\nSpeaker Info\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSteve Osmond is a full-time speaker and writer for Solas\, focussing primarily on Scotland. He is enthusiastic about evangelism and regularly speaks at universities around the country on the big questions of life and the truth of Christianity from a range of perspectives. He also spends much of his time working with churches and other Christian groups\, both to grow their faith and equip them to share their faith in Jesus persuasively.
