Talks are followed by open Q&A; the final session on September 22 is a hands-on workshop\, with discussion built in throughout. \n    \n\n    \n      \n        \n          1\nThursday\n\n          September 3\n          Begins 7:30pm\n          Talk + Q&A\n        \n        \n          Steve Osmond\n          A Leap in the Dark — Is Christianity Just Blind Faith?\n          “Blind faith! That’s all it is\, blind faith.” \n          Do we really have any good reasons to believe that God exists\, or is it all just a matter of make believe — a story for those afraid of the dark? This talk will highlight several arguments and good reasons that point to the existence of God — and not any God\, but the God of the Bible. \n        \n      \n\n      \n        \n          2\nTuesday\n\n          September 8\n          Begins 7:30pm\n          Talk + Q&A\n        \n        \n          Gavin Matthews\n          God & Suffering\n          If God is good\, why does He allow it? \n          The Bible teaches us that God is all-powerful\, all-knowing\, and all-good. But why would God allow suffering\, and where is He when we are in the midst of it? This is both a common objection from sceptics and a question that just about every Christian will wrestle with at some point. This talk is an introduction to the problem of evil and suffering\, touching on issues raised by sceptics and focusing on a pastoral response rooted in God’s love. \n        \n      \n\n      \n        \n          3\nFriday\n\n          September 17\n          Begins 7:30pm\n          Talk + Q&A\n        \n        \n          Steve Osmond\n          Is God a Moral Monster? — Violence in the Old Testament\n          Ethnic cleansing\, oppression\, slavery — is God guilty as charged? \n          Is God guilty of ethnic cleansing and genocide\, oppression\, endorsing slavery\, and punishing people too harshly? These are some of the objections and questions that arise for both Christians and non-Christians as they read the Old Testament. This talk is an introduction to looking at violence in the Old Testament and how to read both the Old and New Testaments faithfully — seeing an unchanging\, righteous\, and loving God in both. \n        \n      \n\n      \n        \n          4\nWednesday\n\n          September 22\n          Begins 7:30pm\n          Workshop\n        \n        \n          Gavin Matthews\n          5 Steps to Answering Tough Questions\n          You don’t need to master every topic to speak up. \n          What do we do when we encounter a question or challenge about our faith we haven’t heard before? Do we need to master every apologetic topic before we can feel ready to stand up and share the gospel at work or university? This session will share a simple five-step framework that\, with practice\, can be applied to any tough question that comes up during evangelism — a practical session that helps you put what you’ve learned into practice. \n        \n      \n    \n  \n\n\n\n  \n    \n      The Speakers\n      Who’s bringing it\n      Both speakers are part of the Solas speaking team\, working across Scotland to help churches and individuals engage today’s hard questions with confidence. \n    \n    \n      \n        SO\n        Steve Osmond\n        Solas · Speaker & Writer\n        Steve is a full-time speaker and writer for Solas\, focussing primarily on Scotland. DESCRIPTION:Do you ever find yourself wondering how to respond when friends\, family members or colleagues ask difficult questions about Christianity? \n\n\n\nQuestions about science and faith. Questions about suffering. Questions about judgement\, the afterlife\, and some of the Bible’s most challenging passages. \n\n\n\nMany Christians feel uncertain when these topics arise in conversation. We worry that we won’t know what to say\, or that we’ll be caught off guard by a question we’ve never really thought through before. \n\n\n\nThat’s why Solas is delighted to be partnering once again with Riverside Church Ayr for a full-day Confident Christianity Conference. \n\n\n\nTogether we’ll explore some of the most common questions people raise about the Christian faith today\, including: \n\n\n\n\nCan belief in God creating the world and modern science co-exist?\n\n\n\nDoes God condone warfare and violence in the Bible?\n\n\n\nWhat does Christianity teach about judgement and the afterlife?\n\n\n\nHow can we respond thoughtfully and graciously when difficult questions arise?\n\n\n\n\nAs well as helping us think through these important issues\, the conference will equip and encourage Christians to share their faith more naturally and confidently in everyday life.
