We are delighted to announce that David Hutchings will be joining the Solas speaking team, as we seek to meet the urgent need for more evangelism and evangelism training in our nation.
He will be serving churches around the UK in a full-time capacity from January 2027.
A crucial time for Christian witness
We are living in a time of huge spiritual openness in the UK, especially among young people. The Evangelical Alliance’s “Finding Jesus” report (2025) showed that people are most likely to come to faith through conversations (46% of respondents) and that the Church needs to “make it clear that the gospel is both true and good”, “encourage ‘ordinary’ Christians they can make a difference”, and “equip new Christians for mission”.
These are at the heart of what Solas does – to share the good news of Jesus persuasively and to equip Christians for evangelism practically.
Meet David
Andy Bannister caught up with David recently to talk about his background in teaching, writing and why he feels a call to reach others for Christ. He also shares his hopes for the role and how you can get involved in praying for the role.
David Hutchings is a physics teacher and author who studied Physics at the University of York from 2000 to 2004. A Fellow of the Institute of Physics, his books include Of Popes and Unicorns (OUP 2022), God, Stephen Hawking and the Multiverse (SPCK 2020), and Let There Be Science (Lion Hudson 2017). David speaks and writes regularly on the relationship between science, Christianity, philosophy, and history. He lives in York with his wife and two young daughters.
Will you help us see the good news of Jesus proclaimed?
Solas is stepping out in faith to expand the team as part of our vision to see the good news of Jesus proclaimed persuasively in every corner of the UK and to see every Christian empowered and equipped to share Jesus.
But we need your help to reach the nation for Christ!
Would you consider standing with us financially to meet the greater cost of reaching more people? Would you consider a standing order or a single gift at a level at which you are comfortable?
A special offer for new supporters

If you sign up to support Solas as a regular giver for at least £4 per month (the price of a cappuccino!), as a thank you we will send you the gift of David’s book, Let There Be Science.
In the book, David Hutchings and co-author, Tom McLeish, examine the history of science, and how Christianity provided a powerful underlying reason for doing science in the first place.
Regular monthly support, even a small amount, helps make Solas sustainable and helps us towards our vision of reaching more people for Christ.
