The reason that that Christianity is important is because it is the only worldview that provides an adequate foundation for both those things. It provides a foundation for human dignity, it says that all human beings are made in the image of God – and therefore possess a inherent worth. However, it also provides a basis for humility – because Christianity is ‘the great humbler’, as it tells me that I am sinful enough that Jesus actually had to die to rescue me.
This a really important topic for the students, as on campuses as many people are genuinely afraid that if they talk about their faith in Jesus they will look like fools in front of their peers or Profs.
I was impressed with the way that the students, as well as having heaps of laughs, games, sport, music, a bonfire, and a ceilidh were really engaged with the Bible teaching, small groups studies and prayer times too
In the last few weeks I have also had the incredibly exciting opportunity of going and speaking at Edinburgh University. This time though, it was not at any of the campus Christian groups, but at the Edinburgh University Islamic Society. The way that meeting came about is hilarious!
It was great to see responses during the mission—some people giving their lives to Christ for the first time and about 40 people signed up for the Alpha Course
It was great to see the students really engaged, the lunch-bars full; and people coming to Christ – all the things we get really excited about.
